Squirrel Hill Memory Care Project will Break Ground this Week

In a recent Aging Edge article, The Jewish Association on Aging’s new AHAVA Memory Care Residence was featured. The article explains that the more than $6 million project includes renovating a ground-floor section of the existing Charles M. Morris Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the new memory care center, which will be licensed as assisted living. In Pennsylvania, assisted living residences are required to have additional staff training, private living space and amenities than personal care homes. They also allow for the care of residents with more complicated health conditions, within a more homelike environment than a nursing home.

In the article, Martha Martel, JAA Director of Memory Care Programming, says that AHAVA Memory Care Residence will provide a greater ability to accept residents with higher levels of care needs. “By offering assisted living, we can keep them longer, hopefully for the rest of their lives.”
